I'm going on a trip but I'm only 17. How do I check into hotels?

I%26#039;m visiting Chicago, New York and Boston soon with a friend who%26#039;s also 17. The problem is, most motels/hotels wont check you in unless you%26#039;re 21. Does anyone know of any motels in those areas that don%26#039;t care? Do you think we have a chance of finding some motels that will let us stay or are we screwed? I have a credit cad with my name on it, and my theory is that we%26#039;ll be able to find some place that wont care.

Who on earth is letting you do this? Don%26#039;t you have parents or some family unit to educate you on the perils of teens traveling? It%26#039;s not like you are headed to Spring Break in Florida but to 3 of the largest and trickiest cities in the country!! How city savvy are you? Do you understand it%26#039;s a whole different life in cities those sizes? How vulnerable you are as a wide eyed teen standing there looking stupid and lost? Nope, take an escorted bus tour, found at travel agencies, and don%26#039;t be foolish. Ya, I know, you have all the answers and so did I but it all backfired.

your pretty much screwed. Chicago and new york it will be really hard. i work in the hotel business and most hotels will not let minors book a room. motel 6 is probably your best bet....p.s. if your staying at motel 6 please take your own sheets.

Minimum age that involves any type of monetary transaction is 18. Some specific type of transactions require a higher minimum age such as rental cars.

Is this question real? Your parents are letting you go traveling all over the country?

You are talking about some big cities. Much can happen to (2) 17 year olds. I would reconsider if I were you. Toooo dangerous.

Good Luck

Go through a travel agency - you may have to pre-pay the hotel stay(s).

However, don%26#039;t just go and hope for the best. You could easily find yourself literally on the sidewalk for the night, and one of the better things that might happen would be getting detained by the police.

I have worked in the hotel industry for 4 years. most hotels will care about your age, your best bet is to call the hotel you are scheduled to check in to, and explain that your %26quot;Parent%26quot; will be arriving later that evening and you have to check in for him... or have the adult call in for you, the best thing is to have communication with the hotel so when you do arrive they will feel like they know your situation. you may even want to say that you are going to that area for a funeral....touchy subjects like that people usually don%26#039;t want to many details. even offer paying a higher deposit. the problem with underage customers is legally the hotel can not take you to court for damage or fees, so you may even need to have someone over 21 hold your room with their credit card and change payments upon arrival. what hotel brand are you staying at.

Hotels do not want to rent to minors because if things are destroyed, they have no legal recourse. My son had to stay over at a hotel due to an airplane connection problem when he was 17. I had to contact the hotel and fax over not only my signed credit card, but also a signed letter assuming all liability. If your parent will do that and make the arrangements in advance, it might be possible, otherwise you won%26#039;t be able to do it. I suggest you travel where you have friends or family who will put you up.
