What's the minimum amount of debt you must owe before filing for bankruptcy?

I am about $15,000 or so in debt right now. $12,000 of it is from medical bills from an emergency surgery I had to have (I had insurance to cover the surgery but they only paid 10% and now I%26#039;m stuck with the medical bills from it and NO way to pay them). I%26#039;m working full time but am currently switching to part time because I just recently had a baby and need to be able to stay home some of the time with him to cut costs on babysitting. I don%26#039;t care tht the bankruptcy will be on my credit for 10 years....it will take me that long to pay off the medical bills at the rate I can afford to pay them now...I also have diabetes and my prescriptions cost a TON a month...it%26#039;s impossible for me to work part time (or even full time for that matter) and even survive at this rate. I need to get an apartment for my son and I and just can%26#039;t do it with the amount of bills I owe. Is there a minimum amount of money you must owe before filing bankruptcy? Will I be able to keep my car?

To file for bankruptcy it does not have to be a certain amount but a certain percentage of what you make/own. In my state there is a place called %26quot;We the People%26quot; they will help you file a chpt 7 for $199 without lawers. Google them if you can.

Also if your bills are current you probally will Not be able to file. You have to prove financial hardship.

If you want to keep your car you will have to file a chapter 13. Which means you have to pay off everything on a payment plan.

It is really simple. Most creditors do not contest bankruptcy. A few weeks after your bankruptcy is discharged (usually 3months after filing) you can apply for credit again. Creditors will be more than likely to give you credit because they KNOW that you can not file again for a number of years.

Don%26#039;t assume that bankruptcy is the answer. First go and see a credit counsellor, most are free. They will look and everything and try to find a solution as they will contact your creditors and negotiate an agreement. It isn%26#039;t 10 is is 7 years.

Go and talk to your pharmacist about generic medications that are cheaper. No, they won%26#039;t take your car. Don%26#039;t get stressed, you have alot of option, what about child support?
