Student loan repayment through GI Bill...?

My husband is in the Army Reserves, and chose the SLR program for his college loans. He has since graduated, has filled out the paperwork needed for the Army, and they have not gotten back with him about it. Is there anything else he needs to do to take care of it? It%26#039;s showing up on his credit account as unpaid and overdue, so the Army hasn%26#039;t paid it yet (surprise surprise)... How long does it usually take for them to do it, and is there anything else he can do to maybe speed things along? He%26#039;s asked his UA numerous times, and he told him that%26#039;s all he had to do, but that was over 4 months ago.

Thanks!

Were the loans in default before he signed up? If so, the SLR will not cover them. He needs to take this to his command to find out the details. His recruiter won%26#039;t be able to help him. He needs to start with his Personnel Office, and then go to Finance.

Good luck

Talk to the finance office of his school, I am sure they have had this expierience before as well and could tell him procedured to follow.

The army will pay on the anniversary date. They get paid once a year. He can request a forbearance based on the paper work. But he can always call direct loans.

He had to submit the paperwork thru someone - have him go back to the someone.

I sure sure hope he kept copies - resubmit it.

You need to pay the minimum payment of the loans while the Army does it thing. Do you really want to screw your credit up for years to come just waiting. Interesting that you wouldn%26#039;t do this, but anyway. The Army and the rest of the goverment takes a long time to process things like this. Call the VA 800 number and see if they know anything about it. If it is truly a repayment through the GI Bill it is money coming from the VA itself. If the claim has been filed with the VA they can tell you what the status of the claim is when you call the VA. Good luck.
