think about it most 18 years old are not gonna have 2 years of credit history...and alot don%26#039;t have good terms with there parents....i know alot of timesthey get roomates...so if one person doesn%26#039;t have the 2 yrs credit...and the other roomate does? will the landlord care? I mean if your making enough money and have been working.....and have a clean backround? does it matter?
How do 18 year olds get approved for apartments w/o a cosigner?%26gt;?
most apartments have requirements to lease. You can get a roommate that meets those requirements, and they will usually take you as an occupant, as long as you don%26#039;t have bad credit/resient history/criminal background. Also, most apartments will let you pay 6 or so months rent in advance w/o a co-signer.

In most cases it does matter... but if you find a really old apartment that is desperate for tenants they are willing to work with you if you have a stable job most of the time...

they will look at your credit too...just because u make alot of money doesnt mean that you will give it to the. You should open up an account with the credit union and they will look at that as credit. I think thats ur best bet! Hopefully your job has a credit union

Where are you located? Here in Chitown, it depends. Some landlords don%26#039;t check anything!!...(which can be unsafe)...like where I am now, the only thing he wanted to know is do I work and do I meet the income requirements. He didn%26#039;t do a bg check or credit check! and again there are the slumlords that don%26#039;t check you and also don%26#039;t respond to maintanence issues in your apartment...so much to look out for. So yes, It depends on the landlord and what they want done.

If you can prove that you make at least 5 times the monthly rent(unlikely for an 18yr old)and have been at your job for a long time you may have a chance. Other then that youll need a roomate with good credit

most teens are getting credit cards at a younger age. but if you don%26#039;t pass the credit check you just pay full deposit/full months rent. I was 18 when I got my first apartment with no cosigner, and $100 deposit b/c I had good credit. I got a credit card when I was 16 because I%26#039;ve been working hard since I was 15 and in college

There are many reasons an astute landlord would choose someone else over an 18 year old. As your future prospective landlord I would be asking, discussing and thinking about the following questions/issues...
1. (If you failed your responsibilities, do you have a mom and dad to bail you out and take you home)? If your parents refuse to be a co-signer, I need to hear why they refuse to help you. You don%26#039;t have back up family support and I don%26#039;t want to get burned.
2. Do you expect to throw parties in the apartment? My apt building has very few problems with parties, or loud music or musical instruments, and I want to keep the peace %26amp; quiet.
3. I expect 1 months security deposit in order to move in. This covers normal wear and tear. But if there%26#039;s damage I will charge you. I expect you to take action and call me immediately if there%26#039;s leaks or faucett drips. (Will you care about my property the way I do?)
4. (18 year old%26#039;s can make weak Judgments and decisions about roommates which is a risk for a landlord). If your roommate leaves suddenly can you pay the rent? Do you move out?...Do you have any ideas how you might avoid that situation? If they damage the apartment what would you do?
If your roommate%26#039;s boyfriend/girlfriend came over all the time what would you do? Who pays the bills on time for cable tv, electric, internet, phone, etc?
5. I think if it%26#039;s a very desirable %26amp; safe location with a reputable landlord you will have stiff competition for the apartment. At 18, your job is not that impressive compared to an engineer or office manager. Hopefully you can honestly say that you are a college student.
6. If you want to prove that you are responsible and a good tenant, you can offer to give a larger security deposit (1 1/2 months rent). (you are entitled to receive it all back if the condition of the apartment is satisfactory).
7. My suggestion is to discuss your ideas about the issues listed above; I think they would be surprised by your maturity. I would comment how much I like the landlord and the job they are doing on the premises. Dress appropriately almost like a job interview, not skimpy clothes. Don%26#039;t move out before you have enough money for this endeavor !(groceries, furniture, pots and pans). It%26#039;s much better to wait (for enough money) than get an eviction on your record.
P.S. I think you would have better success if you looked at the %26#039;Roommates Wanted%26#039; ads (Craigslist), they would have everything set up and it would be easier and less hassle.
