Ok ill be honest this divorce took three years and when we finally began to settle i just didnt care anymore

she got a judgement on a credit card while we were still together and then never pd anything after they took her to court

My name is not on the account im not sure but i dont think i ever even had a card in my name on that account as just an additional card member...This afternoon when i was signing the final papers i noticed that i got stuck with this debt and it even says judgement and the county i live in and also a case number. It was for about 2000.00 bucks. it was kinda too late to change anything as the court thought that we both had already settled...My question is ones the judge signs the divorce papers does that judgment go straight to my credit report.

Or do they have to give me the chance to take care of it. Or ignore it? the first time they took her to court was in 2002 but casenet says 11/30/2007 hearing/Trial Canceled can they even make me responcable

Unless your name is also on the original judgment, it %26quot;cannot%26quot; be placed on your credit reports, no matter if it is on your divorce papers.

If you are unsure if your name is on the judgment, you might either call the county court clerk and ask or look the case up online (if your county has an online court website. most do but a few do not)

As for the judgment being in your divorce papers, if the judgment is in her name only then you might contact your lawyer and see if something can be done about modifying your divorce papers to have it removed.

You and/or your lawyer should have caught that to begin with and discussed it.

yeah i noticed it at signing. after three days trying to settle i just didn%26#039;t have it in me. It took three years to get this damned far. so basically what your saying is if they have already got a judgment on her they CANT come after me no matter what the divorce paper says Report It

If it is in her name only she may try legal routes to get you to pay but I doubt a CA would

They may try to go after her only if her name is the only name on the judgment

A CA may notice the divorce decree %26amp; bug you but cant put it on your reports if your name is not on the judgment Report It

There may be a chance that the judgment is no longer viable Some states have a short judgment SOL %26amp; if not renewed it is no longer legally collectible The 11/07 activity is why I bring that point up Report It
