What rights do debt recovey agency%26#039;s have?
Collection agencies must abide by the Fair Debt Collection Act. Per this act they cannot send the bailiff or sheriff to your house to have you arrested for not making a payment. They have no such power over you. Neither can they take your firstborn child.
DO NOT under any circumstances let them scare you into giving them your checking account/bank transit numbers or debit card numbers to make a electronic payment....If you do this they will most likely take out WAY more than you authorized...causing your account to go negative.

Assuming that they have not gotten a judgment against you, then this is a gross violation of the Fair Debt Collection Act. The next time they say something like this tell them they are violating this law. Tell them you know your rights under this federal law and you won%26#039;t tolerate illegal threats.
Without knowing the specifics of your debt amount...I can%26#039;t really give much more advise.
Remember, collection agencies work largely through fear.....You have rights under the Fair Debt Collection Act.....Do not let them violate your rights. Collection agencies almost always buy defaulted debt at a huge discount....i.e...a $1,000 defaulted charged-off credit card is purchased in the range of $50....So if the collection agency gets even $100...they%26#039;ve made a big profit....This is why collection agencies don%26#039;t like to deal with installment situations....They want to scare/bully/intimidate you into making the largest possible single payment to them.

The collection agencies have no legal rights whatsoever, they cannot enter your home, they cannot put a levy on your goods, they cannot add interest on to any monies owed, they will be intimidating to you because they get paid commission on what they collect and if you have a problem at the door just threaten to call the police, they will soon go.
