GPA weight? re-weighting?

So I%26#039;ve been hearing a lot of stuff from a lot of people about how GPA is calculated when colleges see your transcript in the admission process.

Some people have said that they look at all your grades mostly your sophomore and junior grades, and then do two calculations: one w/ AP credit and etc etc, and one that%26#039;s on the 4.0 scale (without AP credit).

Other people have said that colleges don%26#039;t care about classes like PE and Health or Business, or choir, band etc.

Basically, my plight is that in freshman year, I sort of messed up. (I realize that freshman grades won%26#039;t be seen by a lot of public schools, but I%26#039;m planning on attending a private school.) I had B%26#039;s in PE and Health class, so do colleges see that? Will it count against me? Or do they only care about core classes like math, english, history, etc?

Please tell me if any of the above is true, because I am seriously confused.

Please and thanks in advance.

GPA weight? re-weighting?

At my school, PE is not counted (thank goodness, because PE is practically academic around here) and classes like health are not counted either, I don%26#039;t think. I know that stuff like choir, band, etc. is counted in terms of VPA (most colleges do not have a PE requirement) and also because they are considered %26quot;college prep.%26quot; I guess PE is just considered life prep.

And you can have 2 GPAs. At my school, they put that on your transcript. They have 4, really: 10-12 grades weighted and non-weighted (non-weighted makes the greatest possible score a 4.0, but if you have a 4.2 or so, you end up with a 3.8-ish) and then 9-12 weighted and non-weighted. Plus, they include under each semester the total GPA for that semester alone.

Hope that clarifies.

GPA weight? re-weighting?

You can%26#039;t have both a weighted and un-weighted GPA. Each student has only 1 GPA, not 2.

GPA weight? re-weighting?

Colleges only look at your total grade for the whole year, each year.

Say you got an A one semester, and a B another.

A%26#039;s=4 and B=3

4+3=7

Divide that by 2 [for each semester] and your final grade in that class for the whole year would be a 3.5.

I wouldn%26#039;t even worry about B%26#039;s inless you were planning on going to Harvard or something.

GPA weight? re-weighting?

If you take any AP class the grade itself is already weighted. If you get a B in that class, you actually got a A in a regular class.

There already pre-weighted. AP classes count toward college hours. You have to have some many college hours of each topic (english, history, science, ect) and any AP class will keep you from taking one of those.

For example.

Say you you have to have three hours of English, and you took AP English III, and it counts for and hour of college credit. Now you only have to have two.
